When and where do Learning for Life visits occur?

Visits occur in your home where the child feels safe and relaxed to ensure a productive learning experience.  Home visits are scheduled at your convenience  once a week, every other week or monthly on weekdays usually for an hour or two.

How is Learning for Life funded?

The LFL program is paid for by Early Childhood Iowa grant funds. Similar programs are also being sponsored by Early Childhood Iowa in Harrison and Shelby counties.

Some families may qualify for a scholarship to the preschool of the parent's choice.  These scholarships are also approved and paid for by Early Childhood Iowa funds.

Our Program Includes:
  • Home visits to help you learn about child development, how your child's brain is developing, talk about your concerns, ask questions and share the joys and frustrations of parenting.
  • Developmental screenings to reassure you of your child's progress and to help identify potential problems.
  • Parenting groups to help learn from one another and to support one another.
  • A resource network that can help parents find services in their community, if needed.
Research shows:
  • LFL children, at age 3, are significantly more advanced in language, social development, problem solving and other intellectual skills than comparison children.
  • LFL has been found to reduce placement in special education and to lower the incidence of abuse and neglect.
  • LFL children outscore their peers on measures of school readiness and later, school achievement.
  • LFL parents take a more active role in their children's schooling than non-LFL parents.
